OUR INFANTS AND TODDLERS

At Heretaunga Park, we understand that some families need to return to work while their babies are still very young. That is why we welcome children from birth and provide a nurturing, home-like environment that feels safe, calm, and reassuring for both tamariki and their whānau.
Our Under 2s space is thoughtfully designed to support the unique needs of infants and toddlers. This includes a separate indoor and outdoor area tailored specifically to their stage of development, with age-appropriate resources, soft spaces, and a peaceful atmosphere. We keep group sizes small and maintain high teacher-to-child ratios so that each child receives individual attention and care.
Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Our teachers take the time to form strong, trusting bonds with each child and their family. This helps babies and toddlers feel secure, supported, and confident to explore their world. We follow your child’s rhythm and routines as much as possible, including sleep times, bottle feeds, and comfort rituals, to ensure a smooth and respectful transition between home and centre life.
The Under 2s programme is rich with sensory play, music, books, tummy time, outdoor exploration, and gentle one-on-one interactions. We offer plenty of opportunities for children to explore textures, sounds, movement, and relationships through open-ended activities and calm, responsive caregiving. Whether they are crawling across soft mats, playing with water, or watching leaves move in the breeze, every experience is a chance to learn and grow.
We focus on supporting your child’s development in all areas, including early communication, social interaction, emotional expression, motor skills, and confidence. Teachers talk to the children throughout the day, sing songs, read stories, and encourage gestures and words that help support language and connection.
Our dedicated Under 2s team is passionate about providing loving care, respectful routines, and a calm space where the youngest members of our Heretaunga Park, Upper Hutt, whanau can thrive. We understand that the early years are foundational, and we treat each moment as an opportunity to build trust, foster growth, and honour the uniqueness of every child.

WHAT WE OFFER
Healthy MealsWe understand that the relationship between nutrition, health and learning is of paramount importance in a child's development. Our on-site qualified chef prepares all meals in accordance with the NZ Heart Foundation guidelines. We cater for all dietary needs and ensure that all food is a suitable consistency for all our infants including those starting out on solids.
Separate Outdoor AreaOur children learn at their own pace, through their interests and creativity. A separate outdoor area invites the children to explore, providing an opportunity to enhance their physical development. An extensive range of age and developmentally appropriate resources are always accessible and regularly rotated to ensure variety.
