READY FOR SCHOOL
Confident. Independent. Ready to Learn.
At Heretaunga Park, Upper Hutt, we take a thoughtful, play-based approach to school readiness. We help children build the social, emotional, and practical skills they need to thrive in a primary school environment.
We know our role isn’t to be a school. Our job is to lay the groundwork so children love learning before they even step through the classroom door.
Building Lifelong Learners
Our school readiness programme is woven into everyday experiences. Through play and positive guidance, children develop:
Social confidence – learning to share, take turns, communicate clearly, and work together in group settings
Independence – practising how to dress themselves, use the toilet confidently, and manage their own belongings
Emotional regulation – developing tools to recognise, express, and manage feelings with care and support
Early literacy and numeracy – exploring letters, numbers, patterns, storytelling, and problem-solving through fun, hands-on activities
Listening and focus – gently increasing mat times to help children become comfortable with sitting, listening, and following group instructions
We design activities that are meaningful and engaging. Instead of worksheets or rote tasks, we offer opportunities that spark curiosity, encourage focus, and help children feel proud of what they’re learning. Our teaching is based on encouragement and connection because we know children learn best when they feel safe, seen, and successful.
A Reputation That Follows Them
Many of our children go on to attend schools like Silverstream School, St Brendan’s, Pinehaven, Trentham, Upper Hutt, and Oxford Crescent. We regularly hear from teachers that they can tell when a child has come from Heretaunga Park. They arrive ready to listen, ready to try, and most importantly, ready to enjoy the journey ahead.
