Our Over 2s area is designed to give children the freedom, space, and support they need to grow into confident, curious learners. We are proud to offer some of the largest outdoor play areas in the Hutt Valley, providing plenty of room for active movement, sensory exploration, and adventurous play. From running and climbing to sandpits, water play, and riding bikes, our outdoor environment encourages children to test their physical abilities, take safe risks, and build resilience.

Inside the classroom, the learning continues with thoughtfully prepared activities that support all areas of development. Our Over 2s are offered a wide range of hands-on experiences including puzzles, colouring, painting, messy play, imaginative games, and music. These activities are more than just fun. They help children develop fine motor skills, language, communication, emotional expression, and a sense of independence. We also place a strong emphasis on social learning and help children build friendships, collaborate, and express their needs with confidence.

We follow an enquiry-based learning approach that allows each child’s natural curiosity to lead the way. Our teachers observe, listen, and gently guide children as they ask questions, solve problems, and explore their world. Whether they are experimenting with water, digging in the garden, creating art, or building structures with blocks, children are supported to form their own ideas and theories through play.

Communication is a key focus in the Over 2s area. Teachers support language development through conversation, storytelling, and shared group times, while also encouraging emotional literacy and self-awareness. We help children learn how to express themselves, navigate challenges, and celebrate their own achievements.

We believe that play is a powerful way for children to make sense of the world. That is why our programme is designed to be engaging, flexible, and responsive to the interests of the children. We see learning not as something to rush through, but as something to enjoy together.
